Jewish Federations Statement on the Passing of Senator Lindsey Graham

Jewish Federations of North America mourn the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, who for decades was one of the greatest and most steadfast friends of the State of Israel, the Jewish people, and the Jewish communities of North America.

Even in recent years, amid the alarming rise in antisemitism across the United States, Graham was among the leading voices calling for the protection of Jewish communities and for a determined fight against hatred and extremism.

Jewish Federations of North America extend their deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His longstanding commitment to Israel, the Jewish people, and the shared values that bind Israel and the United States together left a profound and lasting impact, and his legacy will continue to inspire all those who work to strengthen the ties between the two countries and the Jewish people around the world. May his memory be a blessing.

Gary Torgow, Chair of the Jewish Federations of North America, said:

“Lindsey Graham believed throughout his public life that Israel’s security and the strength of Jewish communities are a shared interest and a moral imperative. He never hesitated to raise his voice when it mattered most, and he was a true partner in the fight against antisemitism and in strengthening the bond between Israel, the United States, and the Jewish people. His legacy is that of a great American statesman and leader who served with loyalty, courage, and deep commitment, and it will continue to guide and inspire us for many years to come.”

Eric Fingerhut, President and CEO of the Jewish Federations of North America, said:

“Lindsey Graham was one of Israel’s greatest friends and one of the Jewish people’s strongest allies in American public life. Throughout his years of public service, he stood with Israel in moments of challenge, worked tirelessly to strengthen the strategic alliance between the United States and Israel, and was a clear and unwavering voice against antisemitism, hatred, and extremism. He deeply understood Israel’s importance and security needs and was a true partner in its concerns and aspirations.

"Senator Graham’s passing is a tremendous loss for Israel, the Jewish people, and all who believe in the strength of the relationship between Israel and the United States. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones and honor his enduring legacy as one of the State of Israel’s greatest friends."
